Our first "class" no one showed up to (not even the instructor), I guess we were the only ones signed up and no one told him that anyone had registered for it! It ended up being ok though, because Gwen and I still got in the water and I was able to take things very slowly with her. Afterall, she hasn't been in a pool since last summer, and she's changed so much since then!
I wasn't too certain what to expect, but the whole 8 week class was mainly about getting her used to the water. There was only one other little boy in our class so it allowed for a lot of one-on-one time with the instructor. In theory, that should've been a good thing...too bad Gwen wasn't a fan of Yuri, our instructor. I think he may have tried to take her from me in the water before she was ready for it. After that, she almost never wanted to go to him. She's not very clingy at all, but just about after she turned 1 year she started to have a little bit of anxiety around men that she wasn't very familiar with. But Yuri was able to show me different ways to hold her and move her throughout the water. She went under a few times throughout the 8 weeks but never really got to the point where she was totally comfortable with it.
One of my favorite things that came from the class was that now when you say "kick, kick, kick" or "splash, splash, splash" she knows what to do - even if we're not even in the water!! haha She had a lot of fun splashing around, blowing bubbles and playing with all sorts of fun toys in the pool!
We were able to do a make-up class on a Saturday so Daddy, Aunt Kristen, Nana & Papa were able to come and watch Gwen in action!
The pool that we went to is at my gym, so I'll be able to continue taking her there from time to time. We're also looking forward to a lot trips to Grammy & Grampy's pool on Long Island this summer!
