Christmas Crafts

Mom and Dad came over today because I've been wanting to make a Christmas stocking for Gwen.  We went shopping for some fabric last month, but of course I needed some assistance from mom.  She made stockings for us when we were little, and when Justin and I got married, she made each of us (including Jackson) one for our new house.  I thought it would be nice to make a similar one for Gwen's first Christmas.  Here is the finished product!

notice Jackson's stocking on the right, we need another stocking holder now!

While we were at it, I wanted to try some DIY baby legs that I found on this lovely blog through pinterest the other day.  I bought a pair of knee high socks at Target (I thought the faux fur cuffs would be cute for the holidays):

Cut off the toe and heel (keeping the portion in between and folding it inside itself):

And sewed them into cuffs onto the ends:

 Voila! Cute as a button

PS - we just got our Christmas cards in the mail today and I cannot wait to send them out!!! :)

DIY Headbands

I love putting headbands on Gwen (maybe it's because she's lacking in the hair department? hehe), but I can never find any in person, that I like.  I've been meaning to order some online but I just haven't.  Not too long ago, I was searching around on Pinterest, and came across a few DIY instructions for headbands and rosettes.  I went to JoAnn Fabrics the other day and armed myself with all of the necessary tools.  Gwen has been taking some pretty substantial naps lately, so I got to work..

The first one I tried was the double ruffle.  I know, it's seriously sloppy!  But it was a first attempt and I'm calling it "shabby chic".  I plan on doing this one again with different fabric and I'm hoping that I can get it a bit neater next time.

It's so hard to make her smile while I'm taking the pic.
lol she cracks me up with her serious model face

This one I kind of just figured out on my own.  I bought fake flowers, but when I took them off the stem,  the plastic piece was too bulky and would've been uncomfortable for Gwen.  So I took the flowers apart and then sewed them back together before I attached them to the headband.  I anticipate making many more of these, all different sizes and colors.  I love the way it came out.

Donna just gave me a TON of this pink fabric, so I started making these rosettes.  Guess what I'll be busy doing next week :)

Sew much fun!

My parents are up visiting and on this snowy (ugh!) April Fools Day, mom and I decided to make some pillow covers.  The blue ones are for the living room and the smaller birdcage pillow is for Gwen's room.  I had no idea what I was doing but I had a good teacher.
Look out Etsy, here we come!!!
